AANW FVAA — the Apartment Association of Northeast Wisconsin and the Fox Valley Apartment Association — are proud to present the 2026 Fall Landlord Boot Camp!
► Please Note: Registrations must be completed and paid in full no later than Wednesday, November 4th, 2026.
► Tristan Pettit is a real estate attorney who authors many of the Wisconsin Legal Blank forms governing rental properties. He has traveled across the state to deliver these Boot Camp events for years, and they consistently receive outstanding feedback from those who attend.
► A healthy rental housing market depends on both providers and residents understanding their rights and responsibilities. As Wisconsin's legal and regulatory landscape continues to evolve, it is more important than ever that rental property owners, property managers, and investors stay fully informed — not only to protect their businesses and investments, but to ensure they are providing quality housing in full compliance with federal, state and local laws.
► In a landmark victory for Wisconsin's rental housing industry, the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued its final ruling in Koble Investments v. Marquardt in June 2026, reversing the 2024 Court of Appeals decision that had sent shockwaves through our industry.
► While the Supreme Court's ruling is a significant win for Wisconsin rental housing providers, managers, and our residents, Koble serves as a powerful reminder of how critical it is to operate with proper, updated rental forms and in full compliance with Wis. Stats. § 704 — Landlord-Tenant Law and Wis. Admin. Code ch. ATCP 134. At the very heart of the Koble litigation were attempts by plaintiffs to exploit lease deficiencies tied directly to the "Ten Deadly Sins" of Wis. Stats. § 704.44 — the statutory list of provisions that can render a lease void and unenforceable. Attorney Pettit will help you understand exactly what those vulnerabilities are and, critically, how to ensure your rental documents are fully protected against them.
► IMPORTANT UPDATE ON YOUR RENTAL FORMS — Attorney Pettit has recently made what he himself describes as "pretty extensive" revisions to three of the most foundational forms in Wisconsin residential rental housing: the Residential Rental Agreement, the Rules & Regulations, and the Nonstandard Rental Provisions form. Additional forms have been updated as well. These are the documents that govern every tenancy you manage — and this Boot Camp is the single best opportunity in the state to hear directly from the attorney who authored those changes: not just what changed, but why, and how to ensure you are using the updated forms correctly from this point forward.
Given all of the above, this is a Boot Camp event you cannot afford to miss.
Attorney Pettit will help fill in the blanks when it comes to staying in compliance with Wis. Stats. § 704 — Landlord-Tenant Law and Wis. Admin. Code ch. ATCP 134. He will also share a host of best practices that every rental property owner, manager, and investor can benefit from — including practical guidance shaped by the latest court and DATCP decisions.
► Consider the value: We all know what attorneys charge these days — and for experienced specialists practicing in Milwaukee and Madison, those rates are even higher. Spending more than 9 hours with Attorney Pettit — one of Wisconsin's leading landlord-tenant law specialists — for $199 as an active AANW FVAA member would likely cost you 20 times that amount if you tried to book the same time in a one-on-one session, assuming you could even get on his calendar for a full day. At this Boot Camp you get that same attorney, that same expertise, a live Q&A where you can ask questions specific to your own properties and situations, and you walk away with the searchable 300+ page PDF "Bible" of Wisconsin Landlord-Tenant Law — all included. Attendees consistently describe it as being worth 20 times the cost of admission. We are not aware of any other event in the state that delivers this level of expert access at anywhere near this value.
► Please Note: Attorney Pettit's Boot Camp is offered exclusively as an in-person event. Virtual attendance is not available. Seating is limited — register early.
► BREAKING NEWS!! Wisconsin Legal Blank will once again join us on-site, continuing their four-year tradition of participation at our Boot Camp events — and their timing could not be better. Wisconsin Legal Blank has just released Attorney Pettit's newly updated versions of the Residential Rental Agreement, Rules & Regulations, and Nonstandard Rental Provisions forms. They will have those updated forms on-site and available for purchase, along with their full range of legal forms — many of which are not available at our regular monthly meetings — as well as an extensive selection of rental property supplies, signage, and other tools. There is no better way to close the loop: hear Attorney Pettit explain exactly what changed and why, then purchase the updated forms on the spot.
