Tristan Pettit, a real estate attorney who authors many of the Wisconsin Legal Blank forms concerning rental properties, has traveled across the state to put these Boot Camp events on, and they always receive excellent feedback from those who attend.
✏️ Now more than ever, given all the advocacy activities that appear centered around exclusively protecting the rights of tenants, rather than a collaborative/common-sense approach to ensuring the rights of both tenants and landlords...we all need to make sure we understand our rights as rental property owners, property managers, and investors.
The Koble v. Marquardt court of appeals decision in 2024, and the related changes to the Wis Landlord-Tenant Law, the Administrative Law Code, and the application of the Wis Consumer Act to the rental housing industry, have effectively uprooted the rental property marketplace. Unfortunately, this is putting further downward pressure on low-income affordable housing across the state, both in terms of new development and existing properties being renovated into a different niche in the rental marketplace. What makes this even more complicated and tragic is that in 2025, the courts are “not applying any of this consistently". We all need to understand what is at stake, and how the rental property industry we once knew...we may no longer recognize.
Given all of the above, this is a Boot Camp event you cannot afford to miss!
Attorney Pettit will help fill in the blanks you may have with respect to staying in compliance with Wis Statute 704 - Landlord-Tenant Law, ATCP134, and now the Wis Consumer Act. He will also be sharing a host of other best practices that all can benefit from understanding.
